A fun, free family festival
Make plans to attend the National Festival of Breads June 17 at the Hilton Garden Inn, Manhattan.
The event will include eight finalists competing for the title of 2017 NFOB champion, baking demonstrations, bread samples, demonstrations by national champion pit master Rod Gray of Pellet Envy, a children’s area, a chance to win a purple Kitchen Aid mixer, a beer garden, live music from Past Blasters, a 5K and much more!
Other speakers for the baking portion of day include:
- Jeff Hertzberg, best-selling cookbook author
- Torie Cox, internationally published food stylist
- Paula Gray, from King Arthur Flour and manager of the Bake for Good Kids Program
- Sharon Davis, from the Home Baking Association
The event is a free, family oriented day of fun rooted in learning. Children can learn about baking and where their food comes from with hands on activities, and adults can learn how to barbecue like a pro and all about bread baking.
In lieu of an entry fee, festival goers are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item that will be donated to the Flint Hills Breadbasket.
Sponsors of the National Festival of Breads are King Arthur Flour, Red Star Yeast, Kansas Wheat Commission, John Deere, Manhattan Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, Hy-Vee Manhattan, USA Pan, Kansas Soybean Commission, Kansas Corn Commission, Kansas Pork Association, Wamego Chamber of Commerce, the Oz Museum, the Columbian Theater, Kansas Farm Bureau, Kansas Agri-Women and Kansas State Bank.
