The Kansas Pork Association sponsored a special category, Best Recipe Using Pork, for the 2017 National Festival of Breads contest.

Patrice Hurd from Benidji, Minn., was the winner with her Bacon Mac & Cheese Sprouted Wheat Rolls.

“While listening to someone rave about bacon mac and cheese, I wondered if I could incorporate those great flavors and textures in to a yeast bread,” Hurd said. “With their soft, tender dough and fragrant, unique appearance, they are sure to capture everyone’s attention and taste buds.”

“I was thrilled and honored to win the best recipe using pork,” Hurd said.

Along with the special award for her bacon mac and cheese rolls, Hurd was also a top eight finalist for her Toasted Cardamom Nordic Crown and received the award for Best Recipe Using King Arthur Sprouted Wheat Flour with her recipe, Savory Sprouted Wheat and Wild Rice Rolls.
