In response to the awareness that livestock operations must be in tune with an increased variety of environmental regulations, the Kansas Pork Association is working to provide information to producers on issues that affect their future profitability.
The accompanying sections give a short outline of the information a producer needs to obtain the correct permits from the various agencies. Information is also presented to help producers know who to contact within the agencies for assistance.

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) is the main state agency responsible for overseeing the livestock industry. Included in this section is information on the agency's district offices as well as information needed to apply for a new permit.
Kansas law mandates that pork producers with operations over 1,000 animal units must file Nutrient Utilization Plans with the Kansas Department of Agriculture (KDA). This section overviews the information needed to complete this requirement.
Livestock operations with over 1,000 head must apply for a feedlot permit from the Kansas Animal Health Department. Other information included in this section include the regulations pertaining to movement of swine across state lines.
Livestock producers using above a certain amount of water for stockwatering purposes must obtain a water permit from the Department of Agriculture's Division of Water Resources.
